What’s weird near Stony Brook?

Every town has their folklore. Whether it’s about aliens or a haunted asylum, creepy tales seem to peak the interest of most people, even the skeptics. As someone who grew up smack in the middle of Long Island, there really isn’t much to do but explore your surroundings.

There are a lot of weird places around Stony Brook in the Town of Brookhaven. Long Island Oddities is a website that documents the Island’s creepiest places that have a lot of myth surrounding them. Though this website goes across the entire Island, I would focus on the places closest to Stony Brook.2015-02-24 13_46_37-

The website hasn’t been updated in a while, but most of these places still stand. I plan to get as deep as I can into the stories around these places, as some are restricted areas.

There are a lot of online resources that can be used to research the lore behind some of these locations. I plan on talking to some students around campus and maybe some community members off campus to get some quotes on whether or not they have heard of or visited any of these places.

Living near a historic village, it’s clear that this town can tell it’s fair share of stories. By using photos of these places and some background information, I plan on telling my fellow students the more obscure stories that give living in Brookhaven a bit more of a thrill.
